? Israeli army says boy was warned before being shot
Israeli soldiers in jeeps congregated outside a West Bank high school on Tuesday just as school was breaking up for the term.
Sources say the Israeli troops were in the village of Bodrous carrying out a raid for no reason. When the boys from the Bodrous Boys Secondary School, about ten kilometres (6 miles) northwest of Ramallah, began emerging from the school they noticed the Israeli military presence and started throwing stones at the troops.
The Israeli army soldiers opened fire on the students who were celebrating the end of their mid-year exams, and the start of their 21 day vacation-break.
One of the students, Sameer Ahmad Abdul Raheem Awad, of Ramallah, died after receiving two bullets to the head, one to the chest, and one in his leg. According to The Jerusalem Post he was sixteen.
He was rushed to Ramallah General Hospital but doctors were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead soon after arrival at the hospital.
A statement from the Popular Struggle Coordination Committee cited eye witness accounts that the boy was walking away from light clashes with IDF troops when he was shot, once in the the chest, once in the neck and once in his leg. Photos of the teen's body appeared to support those accounts, The Jerusalem Post reported.
The Israeli army however said an investigation showed the boy was trying to cut through a security fence, and managed to get past the fence. Warning shots were fired and the boy was called on to stop before he was shot, the army said.
The boy is the second Palestinian to be gunned down in the Palestinian territories in recent days. On Saturday Israeli army troops shot dead a 21 year old farmer in Gaza.
